glammies
The Glammies peripatetic competition was devised in 1999 to encourage individuals from different groups and see each other’s productions. To have somebody else come and see your production, who is not a friend or a member of your family and would hopefully look at it and comment in an objective way. The Glammies is open to Youth and Adult groups alike and Musicals from all age groups.
How the Glammies works: You need to be a member of GDL to enter The Glammies and be willing to give up to 8 tickets for every production (without charge) as this allows three Appraisers and the Moderator, with their companions to see your Production.
The Appraisers then submit their Appraisal to the Moderator who amalgamates the three adding comments where necessary and sends the completed document back to the appraisers and the director of the piece to share with their cast. Appraisers come from member groups and individual members of the GDL. Companies are required to give at least 4 weeks’ notice of a forthcoming production – more if possible.
The appraisal looks at production, set, and costume, lighting, sound, and musical direction and choreography & musical direction (where applicable), direction, teamwork and individual performances. The production is marked in accordance with GoDA guidance (Guild of Drama Adjudicators).
The Year runs from January - December and a Gala evening, the Glammies Awards Ceremony is held (a bit like the Oscars really) where awards are given. It’s a very exciting evening and everyone is recognised, and, even if they don’t win an award, every production is mentioned.
This is a unique service which continues to grow year on year. The Glammies Awards night is very special and popular an event not to be missed.
