One Act Festival

This years (2022) GDL One Act Festival took place at The Savoy Theatre Tonyrefail,  from the 31st March - 2nd April, adjudicated by Mr Chris Baglin, The winners the various awards can be seen below.

Congratulations to Mr Gareth Gibbs

At the Drama Association of Wales AGM held on the 18th September, Gareth Gibbs, was elected Hon President of The Drama Association of Wales.

Lots of you will know or at least heard of Gareth from his many years’ involvement with the Glamorgan Drama League and the One Act Festivals.

Gareth has been a member of the Drama Association of Wales for 40+ years, during that time he has led his company The Players’ Theatre, based in the Rhymney Valley to success in competitive Theatre, having been British Champions on four occasions and as a result of consistent quality of performance, has been selected 4 times to represent not just Wales but the United Kingdom at World Festivals of Theatre, twice in Monaco, in Canada and in Korea.

The Players’ Theatre, led by Gareth, have acted over 12 times in the United States and also in Ireland as well as having acted in over 80 towns and cities in the UK

.

In 2012 Gareth was chosen to be the first recipient of the Angela Tidswell Memorial Trophy for services to theatre in Wales. This very prestigious award was given to him by the Drama Association of Wales during the Wales Final Festival in the Congress Theatre, Cwmbran in 2012 and presented to him by Chris Tidswell, Angela’s son.
